How can I choose a good stairlift (or chairlift)?

My dad is coming to live with my husband and I since he’s getting old and I think he shouldn’t stay alone. The point is has got some problems in walking because of a disability and the sleeping area in my house is situated on the first floor. Therefore , I should buy a stairlift. How can I choose a good one? And what are the prices of stairifts? Thank you.

First of all your choice will depend on the features of your stairs and will change whether they are straight or curve (see in the picture the differnt types of stairs). Contact only reputable companies since it’s important to buy a quality product that comes with a warranty. Anyway, in the web you can find many stairlifts review that might be helpful to choose and to get information about prices.

The price of stairlifts are different since the simplest ones can be about £ 1000 while the curved ones with additional functions can cost up to £ 7.000. I had the same problem with my mum but she stayed with us just for Christmas Holidays. I thought to install a stairlift but then I thought it was more convenient to rent one. Anyway do not forget that if your dad is disabled, even if he is not on a wheelchair, you can take advantage of VAT exemption.

Apart from a stairlift, installing a dumbwaiter linking your kitchen to his bedroom (look at the example in the picture) might be a good idea since your dad won’t need to go up and down every five minutes. Using stairlifts is quite tiring anyway, especially if you do it without help. Moreover, today dumbwaiters re also designed for residential purposes so that they are silent and aesthetically agreeable.
