How can I make a double glazing window?

Hello, in my house I have wooden doors and windows with only one glass. I would like to apply a second glass by my self to make a double glazing window. I think I should cut the glass of the right size, but then I don't have a clue of how applying it on the single-glazed-window. Shall I use an adhesive or a special glue? Any suggestions? Thanks a lot.

I suggest you to call a good glazier who would mill the window's frame and install an insulating glass. Inside the double glazing there is special salt, normally contained in the glass spacers, that absorbs condensation so that the glass doesn't steam up. This salt is called Silica Gel. Then the double glazing can be fixed to the frame with an integral rubber seal. If the double glazing units have different depth, you can get a better acoustic insulation.

I definitely advise you against installing a second glass on your window to make double glazing.

If the glass is too heavy it won't stay stuck on the frame for a long time. Moreover, the Silica Gel is definitely outdated by now. It was not very convenient since you had to be regenerated regularly. Today, double glazing condensation is prevented by inert gas.

It's a good idea to install double glazing since you will save a lot of energy and money. But I suggest you to buy a new one to avoid accidents and future problems of insulation and condensation with your window. UPVC double glazing windows are the cheapest ones but pay attention because you can find a lot of rubbish. If quality is too low, in short time the uPVC frame gets yellow and horrible.
