How much does electricity cost per kWh?

The last electricity bills I' received were very expensive and I honestly cannot understand why since I'm not using the heaters and I normally go back home very late. I'm afraid that electricity prices have increased out of all proportion. Now, I’m moving to a new house and I sincerely would like to find an alternative allowing me to save money.

The price of electricity per kWh actually changes constantly since it depends on many factors: local fuel costs, and pricing regulation and structures. Moreover, the changes in pricing are affected by the demand of electricity. However, the bills we pay are generally based on an established seasonal cost of electricity. Prices are generally higher in summer. I'm afraid that the only way to save money is by washing with cold water instead of hot water, renouncing to air conditioned in summer, or using energy efficient light bulbs.

I always suggest to read carefully the bill, also because sometimes energy suppliers make mistakes when calculating our bills. You can report these mistakes and get discounts of the following bills. Another point is that in the last years more and more energy companies have been appearing thanks to deregulation. Nevertheless instead of getting benefits from this, some electricity prices went up.

Fortunately nowadays there are many useful websites were you can compare prices and choose the best electricity supplier for you. Many companies offer different electricity packages.

There are wireless energy monitors that let you know exactly how much money the electricity you use costs to you. Anyway, I think that nowadays the simplest way to save on electricity costs while helping the world is installing a solar power electricity system. The initial investment might seem expensive but thanks to the Renewable Heat Incentive policy you can get some financial help. After that you will save up to 40% of your electricity bill.
