A new dishwasher… yes or no?

Like most people, I lived for a long time with my mother and father and we have never had a dishwasher. My parents advise me avoiding unnecessary household appliance purchases when I decided to live alone, this way also saving some money for my future according to their opinion. They told me that a dishwashers in general consume large amounts of energy. Then, I have also gathered information by myself and I discovered that the standard-size dishwashers for the normal cycle uses 467 kWh/year along with a typical hot water use of about 23 litres/year. In any case, it all depends on how often you use it on a daily or weekly or even monthly basis. The thing that really impressed me is the fact that you should pre-wash or pre-rinse your dishes if they are very dirty consuming more water and energy than the normal wash cycle... but how long should a good dishwasher last? It is really worth buying a dishwasher?

I can suggest you an integrated dishwasher: they are a built-in model which can be completely concealed behind a matching fascia which matches your kitchens style. You can find several models and they could be particularly interesting to you since they are energy-efficient and long lasting. I think that it is worth buying one of these models. You should also consider that the yearly averages you already mentioned show that washing dishes by hand requires much more water than using a dishwasher.

I just bought recently a new model of table top dishwasher in black finding a good deal. It is a very elegant and modern piece of furniture in my new kitchen, indeed, apart from being very useful. I paid a lot more attention to the purchase price and quality looking from the beginning for a special water-efficient model. I can say that today, new dishwashers are less expensive than they were in the past and use less energy and also generally less water being substantially more efficient than older dishwashers.

There are 2 people in my household both of us working full time as employees and having lunch far from home practically every day. Last year, we bought a very nice semi-integrated slimline dishwasher, and although we use it only for dinners, Sundays and when we have guests, actually it helps us so much, since we have to take care of several other pending chores during the few moments that we have left at home. This precious support, albeit electronically, at home washing dishes significant time and energy savings!
