What are the pros and cons of electric fires?

Hello, I've always dreamt of having a fireplace in my house and I think I'm going to buy one. Browsing the web I noticed that there are fireplaces that can be hung on walls like paintings. I was impressed by this solution because I find it really stylish and functional. No works are required and probably you can move it whenever you want but I'm not sure about this. Can you tell me whether it's really a good purchase as it seems or there are any disadvantages I'm not considering? And what's the average price of electric fires? Any particular brands to recommend? Thank you.

The electric fireplace is a great alternative to wood, gas or pallet fireplaces generally used to heat houses and it has a lot of positive aspects. Not always, in fact, can you install a wood fireplace in your house: for instance you can't do it unless you have a chimney. Also gas fireplaces require particular structural works for the installation. On the contrary, electric fireplaces simply work by plugging it in a power point and require very simple interventions for their installation. Therefore also the costs of assembly and installation of an electric fireplace are low. I cannot remember exactly how much I spent since I bought it many years ago but I suppose that nowadays prices range between £ 100 and £ 1000, depending on the size and features.

I'm very satisfied by my electric stove fire. This type of fireplace produce light and heat efficiently, but it doesn't produce ash and residues and it doesn't blacken the walls. Moreover it avoids the diffusion of unpleasant odours and doesn’t require periodic cleaning or maintenance. What I really appreciate is that you can set times and temperatures in order to minimize energy consumption and waste. As to wall mounted electric fires, you can find them in every size and colour, they are transportable from room to room, wand some of them are even equipped with interchangeable frames and can be customized to your taste. You can find cheap electric fireplace in online mega stores but I would recommend you to buy a Dimplex fire that combine quality and convenience (in the picture attached).

If you like the aesthetic effect of wood fireplaces, you won't appreciate electric fire places even if the latest models have sophisticated technologies and create more pleasant effects. Nevertheless, they keep on being much more similar to stoves than to fireplace so that finally I think it's better to buy good quality stove than an electric fireplace. It will definitely cost less and will require less maintenance.
