What are the pros and cons of microwave ovens?

I have never liked microwaves ovens and I've never used them. Simply I cannot trust them while I'm still too attached to the dear old traditional oven. Recently, my daughter has been trying to persuade me that having a microwave oven at home would help me a lot and would make my life simpler, since I'm very busy with my grandchildren. What do you think about it? An what are the pros and cons of microwaves?

I think microwave ovens are one of the best inventions of the last century! Microwaves allow you to save energy and time. If you use your oven as reported on the instructions and respecting some rules, it will be absolutely safe. They work at such low frequencies that the only effect they have is heating food but they cannot kill molecules under these conditions.

Don't heat food in plastic in your microwave oven and avoid making water boiling because it might erupt once you take it out of the oven. Finally , don't use your oven to cook raw food, especially meat because it might be dangerous since some bacteria might survive. Once you know that such things cannot be done, you can use it safely and take advantage of it.

I would suggest you to buy a microwave/convection oven, combining the features of microwaves and traditional ovens. You can use it to heat food quickly, to defrost it and also to cook it. According to many people, the result is even better than food baked in a traditional oven. Basically, convection microwaves work by emitting energy that hits the molecule of food making them hot, and thanks to a fan the heat produced circulates in the oven instead of being pulled out. That's why you don't have to turn your cake around halfway anymore.

Well, I know that many scientists are still debating over the possible negative effects of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation on living tissue. Not only would microwave ovens be dangerous but also mobiles,TVs, computers and many more house appliances. But, it seems that the level of radiations emitted by microwaves is not dangerous for people. So, feel safe and choose your oven: you can find countertop or buit-in ovens depending on your need. Countertop ovens are of different sizes but I suggest you to buy a midsize one or you won't be able to heat anything but a small plate or a cup.
