What determines whether or not a sofa bed will be comfortable?

Time is approaching to choose a sofa bed for my living room and as usual, I took a look at furniture forums to assess the current situation. Unfortunately, I have not yet found any interesting discussions that would help me make a good choice. With an average budget, which brand and characteristics do you recommend for a good sofa bed (nice and that is worth its price) and also of a certain width (at least 62 inches)?

It is important to be aware that a sofa bed, in general, is rarely comfortable, as the seat cushions do not sit on elastic straps or (rarely) springs, but on the hard upper part of the bed base, a mesh or slats, and this means that the seat cushions will wear out quicker with respect to a regular sofa. If you are looking for a base with specific measurements, so there isn’t a huge selection of  styles. There are various types of base classified by insertion, from the triple, named because it bends in 3, which may be knitted or iron staves, in which it is advisable to insert a polyurethane foam mattress as the spring one will be too compressed, and in the area where it bends, the springs would jump off over time. The mattress should not exceed 6 inches in thickness to mesh with lateral pegs, which folds into 2 parts plus a piece which is inserted under the backrest, cushion or base that is. In this network, you can put a 9 inch memory foam mattress with 4 inches of viscoelastic memory foam, and a 5 inch base allowing you to sleep as if you were on a real bed.

In my opinion, I would only recommend a sofa bed to those who do not need it for everyday use, or have real space problems. Even if you buy the best brand, it can rarely be as comfortable as a real bed.

Don’t forget that there are several countries in which sofa beds are the norm, with space underneath to store bedclothes during the day. Although in Western countries we tend to use it for guests or occasional stays, in the United Kingdom it is also possible to find high quality sofa beds that are quite comfortable and supportive enough for daily use. In particular, a quality mattress, if it offers support for the lower back, shoulders and neck, can make the sofa bed more comfortable to sit or sleep on. I personally recommend the Sofa Bed Company products, or the refined sofa beds produced by Slumberland. Ikea also offers a wide choice of versatile and comfortable sofa beds, such as either the SOLSTA or the LYCKSELE LÖVÅS for example, and futons at the best price available on the market.
