What's the best ergonomic office furniture?

I have some posture problems and I have to start a new job that will make me spend long time sit in front of a computer. My doctor told me to buy ergonomic office furniture. I only knew of the existence of ergonomic chairs and anyway I don't know which are the best ones on the market. What do you suggest me? And what else should I take into account?

I can give you some advice about ergonomic chairs. Although they are outrageously expensive in the last 5 years I have tried many types since I have changed various offices and now I can perfectly tell you which are the chairs that relieve back pain and contractures of sedentary work. All the best ergonomic chairs have rests the knees (see the following models by some popular office furniture brands: Variable and Thatsit by Varier, Komfortsave that is the one n the picture) even if initially many people find them even uncomfortable.

Not only does ergonomics concerns chairs but also office furniture in general. As a matrer of fact, this science (many people ignore it) studies the way to make human fatigue and discomfort in office dicrese thanks to office furniture designed to enhance the comfort of its users, allowing for greater productivity and lower stress. Ergonomic office furniture contributes significantly to reduce a common disorder such as back pain, increasing comfort and productivity in all those who make sedentary activities. But it's the whole workstation that must be ergonomic. Desks must be high and large enouough and a footrest can be very helpful especially I you are not too tall.

You must make sure that all the office equipment (such as chair, desk, telephone, computer) is prepared to meet your needs. Ergonomics establishes the use of the following tools for office work:

  • ergonomic mice (vertical, rollbar or trackball mice) or alternatively good palm rest to hold your hands in the most suitable position (can be used for both keyboard and mouse);

  • monitor supports, allowing you to customize the position of the monitor to a more comfortable viewing, as well as create more free space on your desk;
  • ergonomic keywords;
  • back cushions;
  • backrest and footrest that must be adjusted according to the way you work and the kind of comfort that you want.

You can find all this equipment in any office furniture store.
