Would you buy wooden or stainless steel bathroom cabinets?

It's time of bathroom remodelling. I have just changed the wall colours and now I'm looking for a new bathroom cabinet. I'm not sure about the best material but I honestly would love having a wooden cabinet. And I think it would match the new green walls. But I'm afraid wood is not the perfect material for a humid place like the bathroom. Shall I opt for another material such as stainless steel? What kind of maintenance does steel require?

Well, it stands to reason that steel is much more resistant than wood, and its maintenance much more comfortable since steel doesn't require any particular treatments. Make sure that the cabinet has been galvanized and humidity won't be a problem. Hinges are more likely to rust. In that case, make a paste of salt and lemon juice and rub the hinges of your cabinet. Then, wipe them with a cloth and some alcohol and finally apply some mineral oil to protect them from future rust.

I don't like metal in the bathroom. It's so cold! Nowadays, you can find vanity sets and bathroom cabinets made of the best types of wood and treated in order to resist to water and humidity. Wood is the most sustainable material you can choose. I've just bought a solid oak bathroom cabinet. Oak seems to be one of the most durable and resistant woods. If you want to be sure that your cabinet won't get spoiled because of moisture, just apply a natural coating.

You're right, metal is cold but there are so many expedients that help you to make it warmer and nicer. Lights and mirrors on bathroom cabinets can create nice light reflections. Unlike wood, stainless steel is perfect for toilets since it withstands time, staining, changing temperatures and water damage. Use a microfibre cloth to dry it and if you want to use a detergent, buy a very mild one. In case of very resistant stains, use a stainless steel polish but then rinse it perfectly and dry it.
